It is especially useful for patients in whom direct visualization of the vocal cords is not possible, as in patients with massive airway bleeding or regurgitation, limited access to the airway and in patients in whom neck movements is contraindicated.
The blue tube should be placed in trachea and filled with 100 ml of air, while the white tube should finish into esophagus and filled with 15 ml of air. When the oral cavity if closed by the filled balloon of the blue tube and the esophagus is closed by the filled balloon of the white tube, all air exiting the 2 holes at the end of the blue tube enters the larynx and the white tube can be used to empty stomach. |
